CITYCON OYJ   Press release   17 February 2016

The Iso Omena expansion project is progressing as planned, and the first phase of the shopping centre will open already this August, and the second phase in spring 2017. The occupancy rate of the expanded Iso Omena is as high as 83 per cent.

One of the specialties of the expanding Iso Omena is a diverse restaurant world that will be unique within Finnish shopping centres. After the expansion, Iso Omena will have around 50 different cafés and restaurants. They will have a total of 3,500 seats, and the share of restaurants of the total gross leasable area of the shopping centre will grow to ten per cent.

Iso Omena’s restaurant world can be compared to Helsinki City Centre when it comes to the diversity of the offering. The restaurants opening in Iso Omena include, among others: Steak House Goodwin, Makaronitehdas, serving high-quality pasta dishes; Mexican-style Eatos; Fuku, serving Japanese food; ramen restaurant Momotoko; Dim Sum restaurant; Fafa’s, which is known for is falafels and pita breads; and Lucky Bastard, which serves gourmet burgers.

The cafés are also on the same level with the restaurants. At the renewed Iso Omena, customers can find Starbucks, the Swedish café Espresso House, Mövenpick Cafe, The Choux Company that is a café established by two French bakers, and La Torrefazzione that you might already know from their café at Helsinki City Centre.

Many of the restaurants will continue to serve customers also in the evening after the shopping centre has closed. A new Finnkino seven screen cinema will also be opened next to the restaurant world.

“Iso Omena’s restaurant selection will reach an international level when it comes to both abundance and diversity. It will feature many restaurant concepts that have not previously been seen in Finnish shopping centres. We are aiming to create an ensemble that attracts the demanding residents of Espoo living in Iso Omena’s catchment area also for a fun night out,” says Risto Seppo, Citycon’s Property Development Director.

Iso Omena’s renewed restaurant world will open partly in August 2016 and partly in spring 2017 together with the opening of the shopping centre’s second phase.
