Citycon’s human rights impact assessment

Sustainability -
We conducted our first human rights impact assessment that covers both our own operations and our value chain.

Citycon supports all United Nations Global Compact principles and the International Labour Organization’s Declaration on fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.

In 2023, we conducted our first human rights impact assessment (due diligence) to identify and evaluate the human rights risks in our own operations and our value chain.

Analysing the impacts

The assessment started in May 2023 with identifying the relevant human rights risks and impacts in our own operations and in our value chain. For more insight, our partner Deloitte interviewed our key internal and external stakeholders during the summer.

Based on the analysis, the identified risks and impacts were scored to classify their severity. The results were then examined from the perspective of the impact relationship – is the negative impact something Citycon causes directly or has contributed to or is it something that is linked to Citycon’s operations, products, or services by a business relationship.

Eventually the risks were divided based on their key drivers. The drivers indicate the internal and external conditions affecting the likelihood of the given human rights risk and the severity of its impact.

In accordance with the Norwegian Transparency Act and CS3D

The assessment identified impacts also in Citycon’s value chain. These included human rights violations of security services contractors, labour exploitation and health and safety risks in construction services, and human rights risks in electronic equipment supply chains, for example. In addition to the initial analysis, the assessment included recommendations for mitigating all identified impacts. It creates a framework for our sustainability work and for respecting human rights in our operations and in our value chain, now and in the future.

The assessment is also in accordance with the Norwegian Transparency Act, as well as with the EU’s upcoming Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence Directive (CS3D).
