The light rail has made Oasen a true transportation hub

Sustainability -
The new light rail line from downtown Bergen to Oasen in Fyllingsdalen supports the sustainable mobility of the whole neighbourhood.

Citycon promotes sustainable mobility and access to and around its centres. In November 2022, we achieved another milestone as the light rail in Bergen, Norway, opened a second line connecting Oasen and the Fyllingsdalen neighbourhood to the rest of the city of Bergen.

During 2023, the new line brought roughly 525,000 new visits to Oasen, a 14% increase compared to the previous year.

The light rail, bus terminal, and city bike stop support sustainable mobility

Citycon has worked closely with Bergen’s municipalities since 2019, when the construction of the light rail outside Oasen began. The cooperation has also covered other aspects of sustainable transport and accessibility in the area. In 2023, the Bergen municipality located a city bike stop in the vicinity of Oasen and the light rail station.

The light rail, bus terminal, and city bike stop, together with the surrounding network of pedestrian and cycle paths, have shaped Oasen into a true transportation hub enabling the flow of people from downtown Bergen to Fyllingsdalen.

The development has made distances shorter and transportation to and from Oasen more environmentally friendly. This is supported by recent data, as during the year, most people (60%) coming to Oasen arrived there either by public transport, by foot, or by bicycle.

Citycon and SK Brann cooperate for parking in Oasen

The journey by light rail to downtown Bergen takes just six minutes. The ease of travel has made it possible for us to join our forces with Bergen’s football team SK Brann.

SK Brann’s stadium is located closer to downtown Bergen which is separated from Fyllingsdalen by a mountain. There have always been issues with finding enough parking space near the stadium.

However, the light rail has allowed SK Brann to present their fans with an option to leave their car at Oasen, where they can park for free with their match ticket. From Oasen, they can reach the stadium easily by light rail.
